The objective of the NCMCC building fund is to raise funds towards the ownership of a NCMCC Islamic Cultural Centre. The first NCMCC building fund-raising drive was launched during the September 2008 Ramadan Iftar program and a sum of $228.51 was realised at that occasion. Also, in the same year, the finance committee in conjunction with the NCMCC executive committee launched a second fund raising campaign during the Eid-El-Kabir celebration. The fund collected through direct contributions and redeemed pledges amounted to a sum of $9650. This yearly fund raising was to be sustained in the coming years with slight modification to the timing and style.
In just over a decade after the initial seed was planted between 2008 and 2009, financial contributions made into this fund has steadily grown through generous donations and support from the entire members and external donations.
NCMCC has evolved over the years with significant growth and demographic diversity in our membership. As such, our programs have evolved in size and diversity catering to a larger population and wider range of demographic distribution. As a result, there has been an evolution in the vision, plan and concept for the Nigerian Canadian Muslim Congregation Calgary (NCMCC)’s Islamic cultural centre. The purpose for this centre has however remained the same, which primarily is for bringing the community together for the purpose of worship, pure Islamic and Muslim cultural education, and socialization. This concept is simply to build a home for the Nigerian Muslims and indeed the entire Muslim and other cultures that coexist in our beautiful City of Calgary and environs.
The effort to raise fund and to purchase a property has been the preoccupation of members of the building and acquisition committee who have dedicated time and energy to the cause and by Allah’s grace, on the 14th of November 2023, we closed the purchase of a 10,845sqft (1007sqm) property by making a part payment.
THE PROPERTY
The property is a two adjoining bay structure priced at CAD$1.543MM ($1,543,000) in the NE quadrant of Calgary. Both adjoining bays of the property have two levels (main and second floors), with a cumulative size of 10,845sqft (1007sqm). As reference, this cumulative size is just shy of about three times (3X) that of the NCAC house (3,958sq ft) where NCMCC currently rents to hold its monthly al-usrah. This new property has ample parking in front and at the rear of the property. It is located at a prime and central location in Calgary. Alhamdulillah rabil’alameen! Our organization is very excited about this new acquisition. We however only made about 30% payment towards the full cost of the property to close this sale and we have ample grounds to cover to complete the payment.
CURRENT FINANCIAL SITUATION and IMMEDIATE NEED
When we discovered this project, NCMCC had about $512,000.00 raised over the years for the project. We were subsequently able to raise over $120,000.00 amongst our members within a two weeks period towards the acquisition of the property. Of the total cost of $1,543,000.00, a payment of $637,276.18 has been made towards the purchase with the balance of $905,723.82 due by October 2024. This leaves us with a year period to complete this payment. Time is of the essence with this project!
HOW TO DONATE/LOAN:
We are hence reaching out for donations towards this honorable and most rewarding cause. This property will serve in a lot of capacities towards the religious upliftment, spiritual and social developments not just for our community but Muslims in Calgary at large. It will serve as a masjid, an Islamic schools and a community centre amongst other things. This is hence another opportunity to all Muslims to further contribute to our success in this life and hereafter as a sadaqah jariyah. As almighty Allah said in the glorious Quran:
“Those who spend their wealth [in Allah’s way] by night and by day, secretly and publicly – they will have their reward with their Lord. And no fear will there be concerning them, nor will they grieve.” (2:274)
